I wanted to share with all of you my mission statement and then explain in depth why that is. Our mission statement is:
To permanently change people's lives for the better through veracity, family, and martial arts.
I acknowledge this as my business's missions statement because one - karate has changed me and shown me how it PERMANENTLY changes people's lives for the better. I have students of MANY backgrounds over the years. To name a few, some students have come to me after being sold for sex and drugs. Some students have been through the foster system in more than 8 homes. Some students have been brutally jumped and beaten within inches of their lives. These traumatic events cause so many outlying and devastating ripple effects into their lives and rightfully so. Once entering the dojo and learning martial arts, these students with such anger and trust issues begin to learn coping mechanisms and life skills that help them permanently overcome those traumas in ways nothing else has. Now karate does not have to be just for students who have had trauma such as this. It could be for the simple kid trying to find an independent activity or a place to make friends. But overall, martial arts gives a balance of different benefits that students can take with them forever, even if they stop training. I have students who have been through heavy trauma who come back years later and say, "I still remember how (insert life skill or technique) helped me growing up. It truly is beautiful, which is also what inspires me to help schools with my Bully Buster Program.
